The Sailplanner software is developed to be a versatile tool for people involved in sailing at various levels and in various situations. One of the main objectives is to bring reliable information and state-of-the-art technology to use for every sailor in an easy to use package. As a Sailplanner user you are most likely an amateur racer, a charter crew, a dinghy sailor, or a yacht club. All of these to some extent have a use for accurate weather forecasts and quite often some analysis tools. In short, Sailplanner´s main capabilities can be summarized in the following categories:
¨ Weather forecast viewer where tailor made high resolution weather forecasts automatically are transferred to Sailplanner as soon as an internet connections is available. No user interaction is needed. The forecasts are shown graphically in an intuitive way showing wind, pressure and temperature.
¨ Sail planning with respect to the weather situation is easily done using the various visualization tools. One can plan the sailing either on-the-fly in the boat or in advance, e.g. at home the night before to be prepared. The objective might be to determine a suitable starting time, which route to take, when you will reach your destination and what winds to expect.
¨ Weather routing is here referred to as the sophisticated route optimization tool that in a easy user interface way unleashes the power of state-of-the-art numerical optimization to find the best route for your boat in the current weather situation.
¨ Information sharing is the unique feature that let users of Sailplanner share information between boats. The sharing mainly consists of two parts, the chat which lets users of Sailplanner communicate using text-chat and sharing of boat locations.
