To reach the full potential of Sailplanner the optimizer engine naturally must know many details of your boat´s performance in varying conditions. The standard format to declare such performance is the so called polar diagram (or performance polar, or just simply "the polar"). Sailplanner is by default equipped with a few sample polars but Sailplanner can also import the specific polar for virtually any boat, even motor-yachts.  The details about the import formats are available in the manual.

 

As a Sailplanner user your options for retrieving an accurate enough polar for your boat is from

- experience: Maybe you know your boat well enough to write it down,

- rating certificates: Maybe you have your rating certificate from e.g. IMS or ORC,
